Homosexuality in China: mini-podcast

As I was writing my book, the most eye-opening topic I researched was the history of same-sex love in China (followed closely by the history of prostitution). As I was finishing the book a friend helped me prepare a brief podcast on the subject. You may find it very surprising:

The trajectory from tolerance to complete prohibition and back to tolerance, at least in urban areas, is as dramatic as it is improbable.

Thanks for posting this. Fascinating stuff, and good job cramming a lot of interesting information in just a couple of minutes. I wonder how many Chinese people today know about the history of homosexuality in China’s ancient past.

Well, they sure don’t teach it in China’s schools. There is a lot about China’s sexual past that most contemporary Chinese are unaware of. A real shame, being denied knowledge of such a rich heritage.
