On my way to China

I’ll be boarding my flight to Beijing in just a few hours. The trip will be part business, part meeting old friends and going back to the places I love the most.

Apologies in advance if comments are held for moderation, especially first-time commenters. Please be patient, they’ll appear eventually. If any of you in Beijing, Shanghai or Hangzhou want to get together please let me know. I’ll probably get to Yunnan, too, especially if Beijing is really as cold as I hear. I can’t wait to arrive. But then, I never really left.

Hey Richard, When are you going to make a stopover in Tokyo?

I was there for the Olympic Torch Relay last year, sorry I missed you. I’ll go back as soon as my wallet is stuffed to the bursting point with $100 bills. I’m still traumatized by how much my taxi from the airport cost.

Hey Richard, if you do make it down here give me a buzz. Be good to catch up again.

And as a further enticement I’m happy to report that it’s still t-shirt weather here. :)

Hope you have a good flight! Hopefully the snow won’t mess up any travel plans; it’s still snowing lightly over here in the ‘jing.

Richard:

Actually you should wish to have your wallet full of €500 bills. Assuming you could stick 200 bills inside (which you could if the bills were new) you’d have €100,000 or $150,000 in your wallet.

I support that. Vivre le Euro!

You got a taxi from Narita? Try to take the N’EX next time – a lot cheaper and I assume it’s faster.

RP, good point.

Hey, did you see that Peking Duck was referenced in a recent Politico article (bottom of second page): http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1109/29330.html

Richard,

Glad you are going to China again. Normally I am in Hangzhou in early December, but this year I have to attend a conference in Miami. Will be in Beijing on Dec 21 and then visit Wuhan and Hong Kong.

Can you hear it? A faint murmur, looming on the horizon, but undoubtedly real. Stronger and stronger everyday. But what can it be, you’ll ask?! What can it be?! Please tell us Bao!

It’s the sound of the (long before you even paid attention to it) engineered dollar crash…

Bao, is this a sagely observation that the dollar is falling? I’ve been posting about this phenomenon for two years. And it’s got another 30 percent more or so to fall.
