“Why you be hatin’ China?”

I’ve been enjoying a new Laowai’s dry wit and pithy prose, and smiled more than once as I read his latest post.

You know, people might very well ask me, Laowai 19790204, why you be hatin’ on China so much? What bad things has China done to you? Provides your countrymen with cheap goods, brings the quality of life in the US up to what it is, invented paper, gunpowder, fireworks, dumplings and is the home to 四川花椒,棒棒鸡,道教 and Laozi. Why you gotta be hatin’ on China?

Read it all to discover his answers. (And don’t worry, he isn’t deranged about China; he “hates on” the US and other places as well.) As I said in a comment in a recent post, it sure is a different set of expat bloggers in China than it was back in 2003.

Was relishing something a bit more substantial….

I for one prefer the blogs of today compared to those of past years.

Before, most China blogs were so bloody wishy-washy, mealy-mouthed, beard-stroking-ly, self-loathing-ly, “Why can’t we just all get on” type of patronisingly, oh god, I’ve run out of words….that I often used to wonder if I lived in the same country as those people in the “China Blogasphere”.

Sorry.

I don’t remember wanting anyone to “get on” anything.

Heh.

Speaking of which…….Mr Morris!

Mind you, I didn’t say I didn’t read those blogs of yesteryear, nor did I say I didn’t respect the writer’s views……

Hope to see you back in the saddle again soon.

Back from Golden Week!

I’ve been away in Japan for the past 10 days for a slightly extended Golden week. It was my first time in Japan and I’ll be detailing my experiences a bit more later in the coming days, but suffice to say here that I found it a truly amazing place.
