Hat’s off, gentlemen — a class act.

Be sure to read Hailey’s take on the debate that’s been going on today. She is great.

I wasn’t happy about a couple of the things she pointed out, and hope there’s something for us to learn here:

We have different points of view because we grow up in completely different environments. There’s nothing wrong about it. But what finally caused me to click the button “delete” was that I learned some of you jumped into this debate not only because you want to debate. Your insulting emails first made me sad, then I learned it was my fault to talk about sensitive issues on my blog while so many people will read it. It was my fault to generate such a debate. I’m sorry.

I disagree. It was not your fault at all, because a blog is there to express your opinion. As I said in my long post today, Westerners will see Tibet and Taiwan and many other issues through a totally different filter than people in the PRC. We can disagree and try to persuade one another, but there is no excuse for anyone sending insulting emails to you or anyone else whose opinion differs from theirs. You do not need to apologize.

Keep up the great work, and I hope you reconsider and share your thoughts on political issues. I am very interested, and I am sure others are, too.

hi, richard, this is how you prove yourself to be a bitch! you vowed you will never come back to china, then beg to come back again next month, you don’t have the right to force other people to trust in your words, don’t pretend you understand china so well, most of the informtion you posted just second hand, and you just stayed in china for very short time and never been to other parts of china, mostly you can not even speak chinese, so how could get trusted information, feel pity for you, self-centered loser!

so, believe it or not, your current job is still earning your salary on china market and business, otherwise you might still at your home in Arizona, stairing at your 0 deposit credit with a lot of bills to be paid, that is so true, don’t you agree, you might still have more serious problem, you are approaching 40 years old soon, that is a danger age to find a job in western country. so beg your life now, go down your knees for china!

Geez, George, working out issues?

Oh, he’s back! And he’s all over Richard, that most egregious of Western oppressors!

“Losers! Assholes! Assholes! Losers! You uneducated man-bitches leaving your fat white sperm inside our tiny, light brown women! Losers! Cowboys! French people! Dressing in tights and doing bad kung fu moves and thinking that’s Chinese culture! Eating our food with forks and knives, sucking at the swollen cow-teats of our economy, performing lamely at karaoke bars, walking around with your… your arrogant white skin, your big, culturally insensitive noses, your smelly capitalist armpits, your massive individualistic buttocks, and your huge consumerist dicks! Go home and leave us to our confused, inbred, feckless lives!”

He’s obviously too stupid to think up creative insults, like “brachiating asswipe” or “monkey-fellating loon” or “dick-brained butt chunk”– melodious phrases that would spring readily to mind if only he’d stop and look in the mirror…

I love this guy.

Hi George! What happened? You were posting like a normal human being for a while, and now you’re being George again.

You know George, no one is forced to come here, let alone to believe anything I say. I offer my opinions and my view of the world, you can take it or leave it. Thanks for coming by every day and sharing your insights with the rest of us!

November 26, 2003 @ 7:32 am | Comment

didn’t you share your oppion in this way on other’s blog, i learn it from you! thank you, you think you are normal, that is just your judgement for yourself.

Yeeha Kevin.

As for George, I think District Hospital No. 3 of the Glorious Chinese Peoples Republic must have run out of his meds.

George, I just deleted your last comment. Please avoid calling me and others here obscene names.

Kevin, thanks for that dose of sardonic wit (which unfortunately almost certainly went over little George’s head).

Can you restore George’s comments? I want to see what he called us. Could it possibly have been that bad? Like, “Drink diseased monkey spunk and die, you hippo-fucking asshole!” bad?

Jesus, what’s UP with me and swearing? I’m a religion student, for Christ’s sakes. Anyway, Boy George probably needs swearing lessons, so we should proofread his work, while saving the best Chinglish for Engrish.com.

Saw your post on gay marriage & your comments re: backlash. Linked to it. Chewed over it. I’m for gay marriage, and agree that, alas, a backlash is coming, perfectly timed for the upcoming presidential el/rections.

Would be in your debt if you’d care to weigh in at length on my blog re: a discussion we locals are having about the “legislative vs. judicial” question. My blog has email contact info if you’re willing. If not, no prob.

Richard again,

Apologies for posting off-topic here.

Kevin, I don’t mind when you use biologically graphic metaphors to make a point, but when birdbrains like george use these metaphors, clumsily and obscenely, to insult all of us, that’s where I draw the line.

Kevin, be happy too, but, my home computer is down at the moment which limits my ability. If it is fixed in time for me to weigh in, I’ll let you know.

Kevin, where do you link to Conrad’s article? I’m looking all over for it but can’t find it….

November 26, 2003 @ 3:07 pm | Comment

Sorry ’bout that; it’s actually part of a post on a different subject titled “What a day”– here.

You can start at this post and work your way forward in time to track the current gay marriage discussion, which is primarily between me (a religious and philosophical nondualist) and my best friend Mike (a confirmed conservative Republican). Mike’s a historian; I’m a religion student. Neither of us has any extensive legal training to speak of, though Mike gets points for being more familiar with the law through his historical & philosophical studies. I’m looking for people w/legal background to weigh in (I’ve also invited the Infidel, a Koreablogger, to contribute something if he wants); I don’t care if they think I’m full of shit– I’m still feeling my way through the issues and learning as I go.

Peace and blessings, George. And thanks: you’re a great source of mirth.

Now go and live the glorious Asian dream!
