This time, the breadth and depth of her hypocrisy is truly astounding. Suddenly she’s willing to give 100 percent of the benefit of the doubt to convicted terrorists – just so long as they are Christians. When it’s Moslems we’re talking about, arresting them illegally, torturing them and generally treating them as swine is just fine with Ms. Malkin-Belsen. Greenwald’s post, which is spreading rapidly through the blogs, is a classic.

I cannot abide by the execution of prisoners, no matter what the circumstances, no matter who they are.
As such I have to say that I would use NONE of the arguments she has presented in her protesting of these executions.
She has taken a MORAL issue that is addressed across many faiths, and turned it into a conflict between faiths.
Her stance is more than just hypocritical. It is reprehensible.

If you don’t know what you are talking about, it’s best to say nothing at all.
You should have followed that advice with respect to this post.
Indonesian Army sponsored militias, like Laskar Jihad, were unleashed on the Christian minority in Sulawesi with bloody results. Just as had happened in other Indonesian provinces with Christian communities, and as happened in East Timor.
Unlike Timor, the world noticed little and cared less about Sulawesi. No Aussie troops landed to stop the government sanctioned murder there.
Fortunately for them, the Christian population in Sulawesi. being larger and better organized than in other targeted provinces, were eventually able to mount a defense, and avoided being shot, bombed, burned and hacked en masse, as happened elsewhere.
The parties then continued to fight until the government decided it was no longer in its interests to support it and then — poof, as if by magic, Laskar Jihad announced they were returning to Java (on government transport it turned out) and were gone.
Now the Laskar jihadis sit free in Java, many in govt provided jobs. Their military bosses have happily retired or been promoted.
However, because fucking Muslims were killed revenge must be had, doesn’t matter who so long as they are Christians.
The evidence against these three is dubious at its best. The trial was a farce. The outcome was preordained. And no one from the Muslim militias, who started the bloodletting has, or ever will be, charged with anything.
The odds are good that the accused are innocent. If they are guilty, they are guilty of fighting in defense of a community targeted by jihadis for elimination and who are still threatened.
I used to date an Indonesian designer from Sulawesi who converted to Christianity while at university in England. She can NEVER return home to visit because (1) local Islamists would very likely try to kill her if she did and (2) they’d get her family after she left if they didn’t manage to get her.
So, in the rush to take racially malignant swipe at Malkin (“Maglalang”, what the fuck’s up with that?) , you’ve endorsed a judical farce intended to kill offer up three lives to satisfy the Islamic self-rightousness and obscure government backed jihadist murder.
Shame on you.

Ming, did you even read Greenwald’s column? It’s not about whether these men were treated unjustly and with trumped up charges and all sorts of other inanities. That’s true. It’s that Maglalang celebrates these tactics when it comes to brown people, and deplores them hysterically when it happens to Christians. It’s not about their guilt or innocence, it is about Malkinwald’s double standards and rank hypocrisy. I believe they are innocent, like the Canadian Moslem tortured for a year after his rendition by the US and then quietly released – Malkin never complaions in these incidents, and when we try to impose the lightest of controls she goes ballistic. But if it’s a Christian, you have to do everything by the book. That’s what this is about. Familiarize youself with the history of Our Lady of the Concentration Camps, who wants to hold American moslems in camps just because they are Moslems. How is that for fairness? How is that for embracing American values? How is that for a balanced viewpoint?

As for the Canadian you mention, while it appears, based on what’s been made public, that he got royally screwed, being held for a year, roughed up by the Syrians and then released alive and well, hardly compares with the obscenity in Indonesia.
When Malkin remains silent after the US sponsors domestic Christian militias to murder 10,000 Arab Americans, burn down 1,000 US mosques and 80,000 Arab American homes. When said Christian militias behead three Arab American school girls and places their heads on the steps of a mosque. When the US government knows who committed the girls’ murders and allows the murderers to walk free. Then, after the bloodletting dies down, when the US government rounds up and executes three innocent Arab Americans to placate the Christian right. When Malkin ignores that, you can viably claim hypocricy.
To compare and equate what the US has done with what Indonesia just did is morally blind and I don’t believe that you really think the the two are anything like the same. I certainly hope, for the sake of your soul, that you don’t.

We also sent people to their deaths. Have you heard about those who died during “interrogation” at Abu Ghraib and our numerous secret prisons? Why do you think Bush is so eager to get the new war crimes legislatiopn passed? The Canadian was just the most recent example. And I put it very much in the same category – subject to awful, incredible suffering, something along the lines of murder (and if you disagree, I request you try spending a year in a coffin-sized cell and tell me what you think). Biut none of those things ever created the slightest problem for Ms. Maglalang. Not a peep. She was firmly encamped in the “they killed Nick Berg” school. So she couldn’t be bothered defending these flesh and blood human beings put through living hell, and later quietly released as harmless iunnocents, swept up by mistake. I see very strong equivalents, sorry. God have mercy on your soul for not being able to see it. 🙂

US detainees have suffered something along the lines of murder
Well, in Indonesia, they didn’t suffer something along the lines of murder. They suffered murder. They suffered the murder of 10,000 Christians by government armed, paid and transported militias acting pursuant to government direction. They suffered the murder of 6 priests, assasinated by government backed jihadis. They suffered the beheading in 3 school girls (between 10 and 13 years old), and the maiming of a fourth, the dead girls heads left on display on the steps of the local church. The suffered transexual tied to a stake and burned alive, while scores of Muslims look on and cheered. And, in the final indignaty, the suffered the government execution of three Christian scapgoats while the real murderers walk the streets.
Unlike the unhappy suspected terrorist, these people weren’t “put through living hell, and later quietly released”. Their hell ended with their state sponsored murder. Their release was the release of the grave.
Which of the parents of the three beheaded school girls wouldn’t happily volunteer for a year in a CIA dentention facility, and enter thanking God for their good fortune, in exchange for their daughter’s life?
Ask the Sulawesi victims of the state sponsored jihadis, which they’d prefer — the tender mercies of the US government or Laskar Jihad.
Except you can’t, BECAUSE THE FUCKING ISLMISTS KILLED THEM ALL.
And let’s not lose sight of he fact that the US detainees are detained because they are suspected terrorists, most of whom are guilty as hell. The Sulawesi Christians are guilty of nothing at all except living in a place where the lunatics can get at them?

Boy, you sound really obsessed. And you’re making an irrelevant argument: I agree in full, America tends to treat its prisoners better than the terrortists do. Fine. That’s not even a topic of debate and I don’t see why you’re raising it. I repeat the sole point:: Many suspected insurgents were tortured and /or died in American hands. Maglalang was not only silent, she chastised those who protested as being pro-terrorist. Christians die in Moslem hands and it’s a whole different story. Her headline was not that innocents were being killed. it was that Moslems were going to execute Christians. That said it all.
