The Mighty GOP Wurlitzer is always revved up by Matt Drudge, who then passes the baton to talk radio and Fox News. The sheet music, of course, is printed and handed out by Karl Rove. I see that it’s business as usual, as they begin the carefully calculated character assassination of Hillary. This is exactly how the Swift Boat liars got started, with a big push from ever-helpful Matt, and the rest is history.
Hillary, time to don your body armor and fight back. Don’t pull a Kerry and fool yourself into thinking it’ll blow away. With Rove pulling the strings, it never blows away. He’s right out of a science fiction movie, a perfect, near-unstoppable terminator programmed to destroy. And just like Alien, he leaves a trail of slime and death wherever he goes.

On this one the Rovians are right. Hillary is a bitch and does not deserve the time of day. If she gets the Democratic nomination she will destroy the Democratic party as it goes down to defeat. A fence sitter like me, no fan of Bush will vote against her for a whole host of reasons. She is that much of a polarizing figure.
Like I always said, I forgive Bill Clinton his indiscretions because if you were married to Hillary, you’d have to go looking for strange too.
Hillary is a part of the “old Democrats”. What the party needs are new Democrats like James Webb………

I’ve never been a big fan of Hillary’s, and I’m disappointed at how “safe’ she makes herself, in the typical Clintonesque pattern of wanting to please all of the people all of the time. but I’ll vote for her in a heartbeat against any Republican, from John McCain to Bill Frist. We need to gut the Congress of the men who dragged our country down so far so fast.
I’d rather have a bitch than an idiot running the country.

After Bush 1, Clinton 1 and then Bush 2 I would have thought Clinton 2 would just be too much of the same.
A change would be nice, something different, otherwise it looks less like a democracy and more like royalty. Not that the two party systems offers much in the way of democracy, since they have spent the past 50 years or so getting to the current state of perfection…where the looser is really the winner in waiting – great odds if you can get them.

I’m not a Hillary fan, I don’t think she’s the right choice – as much as I would love to see a woman in the White House, I think her negatives are too high.
Be that as it may, I will NEVER vote for a Republican. I used to think I would, if the Republican candidate were better on issues that I cared about or if the Democratic candidate had serious problems. But after seeing how the entire Republican party has rolled over for Bush and Rove, I just can’t trust them.
The Dems may not be great but at at times their lack of party unity is a good thing. At least I feel like I’m voting for an individual, who might vote his or her own conscience if that violates the party line. Not so with today’s GOP.
I’m still hoping Al Gore gets back in it. I don’t think he will. But he’s one of the only national figures out there who I think has the knowledge, experience and vision to lead us out of this incredlble mess we’re in.

The book sounds like the first salvo of an attempt to milk the last cash the old school Hillary haters have. This particular case isn’t “Swiftboating” per se but internacine parasitism on the part of some conservatives. Clinton hate memoribilia on the far right is like Che chic on the left, and is thus helpful after a fashion — if you see someone with it, avoid them.
That said, last time I checked the left-wing community blogs, they were the ones hissing like the creature from Alien at the mention of Hillary’s name. When she runs in 2008, her vote in favor of the war and her moves to triangulate will make her the target of some extreme nastiness, unless liberals have learned to adapt Reagan’s 11th Commandment for their own purposes.

All of you need to stop gripping so hard and realize that Hillary will never become president. Rove & Co. will bring up the presidential pardons issued by Mr. Hillary at the end of his administration, and rightfully so. They were a joke. The pardons will be enough to sink her presidential aspirations.
My problem with Hillary is this – I question her motiviation for seeking public office in the first place. I think most elected officials begin their career with noble aspriations of serving their country, making things better, etc. Those who stay in professional politics eventually learn that political careerism requires capitulating – to a certain degree – on their original motivations for seeking public office. Hillary never started with this notion – instead she ran for public office to satify her own insatiable desire for power. For Hilary, politics = power. She’s all about guest appearances on Letterman, box seats at the Met, Vanity Fair articles, and police escorts everywhere she goes. The day she donned a Yankee hat was the day she went from being questionable to being a political joke.

That is quite a judgemental statement. Are you a mind reader? How do you know what motivated Hillary to run for political office? Senator Obama was a guest on Letterman, and Senator Bob Dole was on Letterman and SNL. When Clinton first took office, he tackled two hot potatoes that cost him politically: gays in the military and health care reform. If the Clintons were power-hungry, they wouldn’t have advocated such unpopular changes that sank Clinton’s approval ratings and made political enemies. The health care system in this country is so outrageously expensive, inefficient, and inequitable that anybody, Democrat or Republican, deserves kudos for trying to fix it.
A colleague of mine attended an educational forum at which then First Lady Hillary spoke about mainstreaming and inclusion. My colleague, a veteran teacher with 20 years of experience, was impressed with Hillary’s depth and breadth of knowledge about America’s schools. Between photo shoots, talk show appearances, and ball games, Hillary had obviously found time to talk to and listen to/b> educators.
Curiously, helpsfo, you didn’t criticize Hillary’s voting record or positions on issues – just petty stuff like media attention. I wonder which came first – your visceral dislike of Hillary or fawning coverage of her in the media? In other words, did you decide Hillary was power-hungry after seeing her on Letterman, in Yankee Stadium… or did you form a negative opinion of her early on and then validate that opinion every time you see, hear, or read about her?

My post, my opinion. I guess the first data point for me was when Hilary made the comment about staying home and baking cookies (during Slick Willie’s first campaign). It was dumb and alienated many women who wrestle daily with the decision to pursue a career vs. raise children.
Does anyone care to comment on Clinton’s presidential pardons, or does that remain the liberal purple elephant in the corner until Rove & Co. bring it up? ‘Cause you know “The Swift Boat Vetrans Against Presidential Pardons” are going to have a field day with that one.

Clinton’s pardons were totally in keeping with past presidents’. Look at Bush I, who pardoned all the criminals involved in the Iran Contra Affair – now that’s a real scandal. But it’s a president’s prerogative, so there’s really not much to say about it, is there?

I think hyper-focusing on Hillary for Prez could be the WORST thing that the Dems could do. Stupid, stupid, stooopid. She is just incredibly polarizing, and the most stupidest shit comes out of her mouth at the most inopportune times.
She has the brains, but none of the charm that Bill has. I think she’s normally just a harpy who shoots off at the mouth…but then she tries to curb it, in order to have some bit of tact and diplomacy left. And then she comes off like a poisoned apple (with rusty razor blades wedged deep inside) that’s been dipped in gooey hot caramel.
She can try to “act sweet,” but I ain’t biting. It has nothing to do with the “woman” thing. I’d find that kind of beady-eyed power-hungry madness frightening in either a man or a woman.
And this is me speaking as a card-carrying Dem. Any sort of scandal aside, by either the Democrats or Republicans…she just WANTS the POWER waaaaaaay too much. It’s like it seeps out of her pores, and it’s frightening to me.
All I can do is bang my head against the wall, and hope for Barack Obama in 2012. He’s smart enough to not run in ’08, thank god.
