I just saw Dick Cheney on the news, fawning over the gun that the NRA handed him today. He looked totally intoxicated, gaping at the rifle with an almost leering grin. It immediately brought to mind another picture (and it sure took me a long time to find it on the Web). Compare.
And here’s Cheney’s nemesis:
No, I am not saying Cheney is comparable to Saddam. But seeing Cheney with the gun and the two minions on either side brought back a vivid memory of the Saddam photo. Obviously Cheney is no Saddam (which doesn’t mean I like him), but I found the similarities of the pictures to be eerily striking.

I feel you are reading to much of your own views into a simple photo.
How about this
“Cheney, safely holding the rifle given to him out of respect for his support of their views, later gives thanks for the NRA’s fight to protect our freedoms. The rifle, a replica of type carried by the minutemen of Trenton will hold a special place of honor in Mr. Cheney’s house”

If I sound troll like I am truely sorry. I feel the NRA has sold out to much to be the representatives of the 2nd amendment fight. I would recommend going to the RKBA or the GOA sites for some good information on the subject.
I did like your usage of the word “minions”.

Gunner, I didn’t really read a lot into the photo in terms of political parallels — the one simply reminded me of the other.
I do have a lot of troubles with the NRA and the extremism of some of its members. They do seem to get carried away, and arguing with them is always a unique experience.

You left out “orgasmic, death-lust” and maybe a few others. Looking at the photo, I’d say he just got given a priceless antique, which for most people inspires a certain level of enthusiasm, wouldn’t you say?
Now, if he starts using it to gun down his own political opponents, gimme a call, but until then, I’d say the analogy is pitifully stretched.

Hmmmm, I guess I picture of Bill Clinton holding the gun would have been better? Or maybe a picture of Al Sharpton? Or maybe a picture of Jessy Jackson holding the gun would be best!? Lets face it, I am just glad that this country can not be runned by people that FORCE you into liveing, thinking, and doing what they think you should do. If that were the case we would all be speaking german by now. I think the picture is great. Thank god for the NRA. Thank god for good American people like Dick Cheney.

Hunting is a sport that can put you in danger for many reasons. People of all walks of life get hurt, and even killed every year hunting. Cheney’s views have nothing to do with this simple fact. And to respond to Brian’s comment, I am not a bit surprised that he could not be interviewed right away. Give the guy a break. He did not shoot the man on purpose. Bad things happen to good people every day. And to respond to Chris, all I can say is that I sure am glad that every one does not think like you do. Your brief narrow minded comment made me ill.
