OWCH! Don’t click on http://bokane.org/ ..I did and got a virus! My AV software caught it but it was a bit of a shock! Post warning, please.

Was that what you meant by “hacked?” I wonder what the offense was for the blocked sites.

Oi!

Yeah, I clicked and firefox disintegrated.

Strange, I clicked bokane.org and just saw a wall of spam links for xanax and other drugs, but firefox was fine. Maybe my free Computer Associates virus software saved me.

Thanks for the warning, guys – as you can see, I removed the link.

DreamHost got hacked, which affected a number of the sites hosted with them. I was one of the unlucky few. I’ll try to get the site back to normal soon, but I don’t have time these days.

Thanks for caring!

Thanks for the explanation, John. Bokane must be on the same host. Any others?

Nah. If so, they would have shut down this site way before the antiseptically squeaky-clean Sinosplice (which I love and have linked to for years).

Thanks very much for the two sites Richard~~

Sinosplice and Bokane are now fixed. They’re both great sites; glad they survived.

Hey – no scary Great Firewall involvement here, at least not that I can tell. As John mentioned, Dreamhost got hacked and some asshole somewhere replaced the ‘index.php’ front pages of sites with their own malicious code that contained an <iframe> linking to spam or viruses. (Sorry about that, Ellen — wasn’t me, I promise!)

The fix was easy enough — I just replaced the doctored index.php with a clean version and changed all my passwords. Intensely annoying, nonetheless.

Besides the hacking, there’s a couple developments with our good friend the Great Firewall. Flickr photo hosting has been down in China for the last two days. Yahoo! hasn’t released an official statement on it yet, just posted a few notes on the Flickr forums.

In addition, Blogspot is down for me now, but I’m on an educational network at the moment, so there might be special restrictions. Anyone else having problems with Blogspot?

Next, it has been blogspot. nothing new though!

Blogspot’s been down for about three weeks now. Usually it comes back up eventually. I think they just like scouring the whole network for all the bad sites and blocking them individually, and then when they’re done with that they unblock the network.

It seems like more severe than last years VIIV crackdown.
In either event, I have it on good authority that sinocidal will be back online shortly.

Thanks Richard!

My blog got blocked, and then shortly after anyone hosted on my host was blocked (even on different IPs). Now my site has been hacked, they actually poisoned the DNS servers outside of China which filtered down to everyone accross the internet. Hackers came from a Chinese IP in Shandong province.

Seems that the government is getting control of not only Chinese internet but the whole world… great.

I wonder how long it will be till this great site is blocked and hacked too.
