I’m off, yet again. Not sure when I’ll be back, maybe not until next week when I’m back in China. Stay tuned.

The Discussion: One Comment

Hi:

I am writing about a story seldomly covered by Western media but has disturbed the Chinese community a great deal. This is the discriminatory treatment of mainland Chinese spouses of Taiwanese. They have to wait 7 years to get legal status in Taiwan while other immigrants, such as Vietnamese and Indonesian, only have to wait 3 years. This is reprehensible behavior and is a black mark on Taiwan’s democracy. I wish more coverage would be on this in Western media so the poor Chinese spouses-most of whom are women-can receive more attention to their cause and put pressure on Taiwanese government to end this shameful act.

Thanks

Luke Chang
