Look, up in the sky!

That’s me, flying to the US tonight. Obviously I won’t be posting for a day or two. I fly late tonight, and being incorrigible I will perhaps find time to put up another post or two before take-off.

I’ll be back in Taiwan on January 4 to settle all accounts and pick up my stuff and then leave for good, flying to Beijing on the weekend. A whole new life. Brrrr.

Enjoy your last day in Taiwan and have a safe journey to Beijing. Beijing is much closer to Taiwan than the US, so no doubt you’ll be visiting often. I made 5 return trips to Seoul while in Qingdao, always accompanied by friends who’d never been to Korea. I knew that once I repatriated, I wouldn’t be back in Asia for awhile.

Thanks Sonagi. Bizarre as it may seen, getting to Taiwan from Beijing is nearly as comles as going to America. I blame this squarely on Taiwan’s recalcitrant government. (Not that the PRC’s government isn’t recalcitrant as well, but Taiwan has had opportunities to open up transportation to the mainland, and as usual, they opted to make it a political battle (just like their refusal to standardize pinyin) much to the inconvenience of everybody.

Good luck, man. I shall miss the conversations we never had.
