Republicans say the darndest things

Can you believe this?

Rep. Katherine Harris said this week that God did not intend for the United States to be a “nation of secular laws” and that a failure to elect Christians to political office will allow lawmaking bodies to “legislate sin.”

The remarks, published in the weekly journal of the Florida Baptist State Convention, unleashed a torrent of criticism from political and religious officials.

Of course I believe it – it’s Katherine Harris, after all, the witch who did more to help Junior steal the 2000 election than anyone else, along with James Baker. It’s been interesting, watching her complete and dizzying fall from grace in recent months,. I have to admit, there’s very little schaden to my freude.

Update: For the record, some democrats are just as bad. This was literally unfathomable.

Katherin Harris is certifiable. She really has “lost it.” On the other hand, I think Michael Van Der Galen needs to turn down the cutesy, reactionary rhetoric, too. Sure, Shaw’s piece was at best in poor taste. That doesn’t detract from its viability as a though provoking piece about the the working of politics. And what was that crack about people who equate Zionism with Nazism? In its ideal form, Zionism certainly is not comparable, but take at a look at the Zionism in action and it’s a little hard to distance the too. If any group of people on Earth should have learned the lessons about treat humans like humans one would think that it would be the people who live in Israel. Perhaps their people do, but their government continues to behave like war criminals. I know this is off topic, but Van Der Galen’s smug little aside made me angry,

Shaw was stupid. His point was a fair one, but by expressing it the way he did, he threw red mean to the Malkin crowd. Just like Jane Hamsher’s blackface – it’s fair, he merits that comparison, but it’s too easy to be accused of racism.

Harris is an elected official, and not only did she grease G-man Jr.’s skid into the Oval Office, but she represents a large faction of the GOP.

Whatever Shaw is, he is not in government, trying to chew it out from the inside like Harris.

As for smug asides, people throw the term “war criminal” around in a way that demeans the real ones (yes, that is tongue in cheek…)

She’s doesn’t exist in real life, you know. She’s a character from a David Lynch movie.

Gothic freak.
