“Millionaire Ned Lamont” and the insidiousness of the Republican meme machine

I noticed that in virtually every news clip here in the land of the free, all the pro-Lieberman people and even most of the newscasters (!) keep referring to Ned Lamont as a “millionaire” (suddenly the GOP hates millionaires). So I did some googling. Wow. How come I never hear “millionaire George Bush” or “millionaire John Kerry” or millionaire anyone? Only Lamont. (Nearly everyone in the Senate is a millionaire.) What a superb job of spoon-feeding a meme to the ever-willing-to-roll-over media. Well done. Would that the Dems could use propaganda in such a masterful fashion.

I think you’re wrong about Kerry. During the 2004 presidential elections Kerry and his wife’s money were constantly mentioned. She is a Heinz and uber rich.

The wealth of Kerry was brought up, for sure, as was the wealth of his wife. He was never referred to by the reporters en masse, however, as “millionaire John Kerry,” nor has any other politician in memory. And yet, if you follow the google link I provided, you’ll see all the journalists, including NPR and CNN, referring to “millionaire Ned Lamont” as though it’s part of his name! Unprecedented.

Great point, Richard! The shenanigans of the mainstream media are becoming more and more apparent as blog coverage grows. And not a minute too soon!!!
