Shanghai’s Xiang Yang market closed?

Or that’s what Wangjianshuo is saying. Now that would be tragic. Lisa and I had a great time there a couple of months ago.

Well. Xiangyang Market is shutdown, but the fake good store owners are always able to find places to continue their business, and more interestingly, customers (including foreign customers) seem to be good at finding them out, quickly.

Yes, but Xiang Yang had one huge advantage, namely its exquisite location right in the heart of things. It’s like Pat Pong in Bangkok, only it smells better.

Yeah, the market closed about a month ago.

The vendors have scattered around town to various other markets. I read in the Shanghai Daily that some of those markets are denying that their new vendors came from the XiangYang market because it had such a bad reputation in terms of quality and cheating.

I had a nice time there. Got a piece of luggage from a very nice fellow and a cord for my jade.

Yeah supposedly some moved out to the Science and Technology Center. But they supposedly signed an agreement that they “wouldn’t sell any fakes.” I know these agreements don’t mean anything, but imagine if they did: what would they sell?

It (and many other things along the block) closed at the end of June. Some of the non-stalled vendors (watch? bag? DVD?) are still in the area, and there are rumors of a similar market opening in the Gubei area of Changning or in Pudong. Some have apparently moved around Qipu Lu and to the Xingwang Mall (Henan Zhong Lu Line 2 stop), the Fenshine Fashion and Accessories Plaza (580 Nanjing Xi Lu), and somewhere around the Science & Tech Museum stop’s basement exist on Line 2.
