Michelle Malkin: Raging Bull

Michelle’s angry
.

I AM NOT AFRAID OF YOU
By Michelle Malkin · April 19, 2006 08:53 PM

You know who you all are.

And if you think I’m going to stop blogging/writing/making a living because you’ve plastered my family’s private home address, phone numbers, and photos and maps of my neighborhood all over the Internet to further your manufactured outrage and pathetic coddling of a bunch of lying, anti-troops punks at UC Santa Cruz…

…you better think again.

This is supposedly a political analyst (her title at Fox News) and a pundit. But she’s actually an enraged harpie who describes as “unhinged” anyone who takes issue with her immigrant-hating, flag-loving, Arab-kicking “philosophy.” If you oppose the Iraq fiasco and object to on-campus recruitment to fight in a dirty war, you’re a “punk.” In Malkin’s world, the Swift Boat Liars are valiant heroes, and reporters who uncovered Bush’s illegal wiretappings are traitors. This lady is alive with anger, her belly full of fire, and she’s just itching for a fight with unhinged liberal traitors.

Unfortunately, Ms. Maglalang, in case you haven’t noticed, the tide in America is turning. We are tired of being spoon-fed candy-coated lies from the likes of Donald Rumsfeld and the Codpiece in Chief. We are tired of the death by a million cuts that is our misadventure in Iraq. We are tired of being dismissed as “moonbats” and traitors simply for demanding that America do better. You can rage all you want, and your angry audience can lap it up, but you are increasingly on the fringe, not the mainstream, having made yourself the poster child for all that is most ugly about the present administration. Have you ever asked yourself why so many people hate you so much? I promise, it’s not easy to build up so many enemies. It takes, as our president likes to say, a lot of hard work. It was you who came out with both fists swinging, attacking liberals as though they were a form of bacteria needing to be excised and exterminated. Now that the tables are turning, and it’s you who are under attack, you’re singing a different tune, condemning on-line-organized mobs of angry protestors. How ironic, that it was you more than anyone else who cultivated the idea of the Internet lynch mob. So don’t you go-a-bitchin’ when the spotlight turns on you. Behind that haughty demeanor lurks a frightened little girl, and as the heat rises and she’s fed more of her own medicine, be prepared for a lot of pouting and self-pity.

Update: Nobody (and I mean nobody) has been chronicling the myriad sins of Michelle like Dave Neiwert of Orcinus, who is in super-fine form today, exposing the demagogue and the slick game she’s been playing for years, siccing her minions on those who irritate her and then making herself out to be the victim. Just a small sample from Dave’s must-read post:

We’re all too familiar with this routine. After all, it’s what the entirety of her book Unhinged was predicated upon. Malkin, as I said then, is like the lunatic who walks around the public square and pokes people in the eye with a sharp stick, and then is shocked, shocked, that anyone would respond with anger and outrage.

Of course, there’s more than ample reason to question Malkin’s professionalism. Indeed, this isn’t the first time Malkin has shown a predilection for abusing the power of her large readership.

The Discussion: 28 Comments

I am just wondering, does this mean you condone those who posted her home address and photos of her home and neighborhood?

April 20, 2006 @ 1:18 am | Comment

No; notice I didn’t post it, though I could have. Two wrongs don’t make a right. But she sure has no grounds to complain about all that information being posted – it’s all available using google, just as her fans were saying when she posted the students’ personal phone numbers.

April 20, 2006 @ 2:25 am | Comment

The only thing I take issue with here, is that I think it does her far too much credit to imply that she’s like a professional boxer. There’s a big difference between a boxer and a bully.

April 20, 2006 @ 3:58 am | Comment

Aren’t you forgetting that MM is only writing, while the Santa Cruz students are slashing tires and throwing eggs at the house of septugenarians?
There is a difference between speech and action, and their phone numbers were first posted on the internet by their own actions, as far as I can tell.

If you take “Michelle Malkin / Maglalang” out of this post, change it to “Richard from Peking Duck” and tweek it around like so:

If you’re not opposed to the Iraq fiasco and you’re not against on-campus recruitment to fight in a dirty war, you’re a “war-monger.”

…You can see that Richard is simply another Michelle Malkin at the other end of the political spectrum.

April 20, 2006 @ 7:08 am | Comment

TKO,

First of all, Richard has never done anything which resulted in people sending death threats to others, as Malkin has done.

Second of all, TKO: Your moniker suggests that you think of yourself as a tough guy. “Technical Knock-Out”. So I wonder, why the fuck aren’t you fighting in Iraq?
Because you know and I know that you’re not in Iraq. (Your location is easy to find from your IP address.) You just let other real American heroes fight and die in your place.

Third of all, just personally, as I despise Chickenhawks like you so much AND because you had the bad manners to insult my friend Richard on his own site, I’m ordering you to go fuck yourself with a pinecone – because little Chickenhawks like you ought to find out what it’s like to shed at least a little bit of blood whenever you ask for a fight from a distance.

I’m 100 percent certain, TKO, that if you ever heard a shot fired in anger in your direction, you’d be pissing in your pants for a month.

Chickenhawks. Spoiled little boys who bray for war and then expect others to fight in your place. George Washington would have had you shot for cowardice. You sicken me. You are a stain on my country. You are not Americans, you are a fungus growing on the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Chickenhawk keyboard commando. Don’t come back here unless and until you’ve been in the shit, in combat. Until then, you’re just another coward whose freedom to insult good American patriots like Richard has been purchased with the blood of real warriors, to whom you can’t even hold a candle, you sickening little coward. Cowards and bullies like you and Malkin are THE MOST UNAMERICAN people in the world.

TKO, you really ought to move to another country where cowards and bullies are welcome, like to some Banana Republic south of the border. Or to Liberia or Zimbabwe where the cruel, cowardly leaders know nothing of military honor. That’s where you belong. You and Malkin. You don’t belong in my country, a country of real heroes and real honor, as our troops are still demonstrating and dying for even now, while you sit at home and throw verbal shit at real American patriots.

April 20, 2006 @ 7:51 am | Comment

Thanks Ivan. TKO, I suspect, is another Malkin drone who combs the Internet for posts criticizing his ladyship, lashing out with all he’s got and then hightailing as fast as he can to avoid any serious discussion.

In case you’re still here, TKO, I have never asked my readers to wreak vengeance on anyone, and I’ve never recommended that entire races be interned. I don’t know why you’d compare me to Maglalang. Do expand on your thesis, okay?

April 20, 2006 @ 8:16 am | Comment

Jack, if the students threw eggs or slashed tires that’s something for the police to deal with, no? Should we bloggers take justice into our own hands? Is that the America you envisage? Wouldn’t surprise me, since Malkin was swooning over the Minutemen last year. She loves raw machismo and brute force, and this is something I’ll be expounding on, with evidence and quotes, real soon.

April 20, 2006 @ 8:27 am | Comment

Malkin stupidly included her personal details in a mailing sent out her own e-mail list and that’s how it went public. Decency? She launched her personal information about herself BY herself.

And the anti-racist One People’s Project website promptly released her new details.

Someone took it a step further and used live.windows.com and yahoo maps to do a Graphic.

Payback’s a bitch eh’ Malkin?

Her refusal to remove these kids contact information was not from conviction, but from revenue. Every journalist in the world knows that contact information on a press release is for journalists to call for more information or interviews, not to be published (or even pointed out) in the publication itself. If she were any kind of ethical person she would have pulled the information when asked.
If she were something resembling a human being with “feelings”, she would not have republished the information once the students themselves removed it. Michelle is a vicious, vindictive, venomous egoist with no discernible ethics nor even a shred of human decency. If she wants to be The Minority Woman Who Believes Minorities and Women Suck, that’s her right. But she should at least have the integrity to acknowledge that she has done wrong and to stop compounding the wrong. And she should not give us that disingenuous crap about how she doesn’t condone death threats and nobody should misuse her posting and reposting of personal information.

April 20, 2006 @ 8:29 am | Comment

I see Malkin’s activities as an act of aggression toward liberals – actively trying to get someone harrassed, hurt or even killed. She is intelligent and I absolutely believe that she wants violence against these students. And I also think this is her scare tactic to destroy desent in this country. “Keep quiet or we will fuck you up.” That just has to be their agenda – the evidence of their collective actions say that loud and clear.

We are in a culture war and I have no qualms about fighting back. I know my karma is at risk, but it is my karma to burn through.

Anyway, my strip focused on this topic today and I linked it to your post.

April 20, 2006 @ 8:41 am | Comment

Has anyone asked HOW this woman became the fire-spitting person she is? At the risk of sounding racist, here is my take. She is the daughter of Asian immigrants, who probably experienced a certain amount of racism when they moved to America. Perhaps they were subjected to the occasional rude comments by the average white, provincial American. Perhaps they were asked questions like “do you speek our language?” on a daily basis. Perhaps as a child Malkin saw her parents being subjected to racism on a regular basis. And maybe she’s been burning inside as a result of this. Perhaps she married a caucasian man in an effort to dilute the “foreigner” stigma she perceives to have. Perhaps she’s pissed because of all these factors. Perhaps she’s attached herself to the far right agenda because she thinks this is the only way she can become a blue-blooded American?

Or maybe I’m completely wrong. Maybe the fire in her belly is a faux personna she created in an effort to get herself a regular gig on TV.

April 20, 2006 @ 8:48 am | Comment

It’s a verifiable fact that Malkin sees bullying as a good thing. Her giving out the information was thoroughly in keeping with her infatuation with brute force, with thuggishness.

Mole, I am a PR man by profession, and what you say is absolutely, 1000 percent correct. Those personal contact details on press releases are for reporters only, and all journalists know they are not for publication. When the press release is later posted on the corporate web site, most companies remove that information to protect their employees or PR agency from frivolous calls. Any argument that this was “public information” is specious and disingenuousness. And as you say, Malkin knows it.

April 20, 2006 @ 8:54 am | Comment

Richard, you wrote, “she (Malkin) loves raw power and brute force…”

Quite true, and that leads me back to my reference to George Washington, whose martial and masculine values were ENTIRELY OPPOSITE those of Malkin and her acolytes.

Just one illustrative anecdote about that, one of many we could discuss: Well, here I’ll use an anecdote about Lincoln, because this one is especially apposite vis a vis Malkin and her fetish
about “supporting the troops”:

Abraham Lincoln pardoned almost every soldier who was ever convicted of “desertion” and sentenced to death. Like 99 percent of them, the only exceptions being those who had done some other crimes after they deserted. Lincoln’s typical reasoning for all of these decisions was, “Shooting him won’t do him any good, and he’s of more use to us on the battlefield than he would be as a corpse.”
And one – of many – reasons for Lincoln’s clemency, was because HE had had some experience of combat, and he knew how even the most courageous men sometimes fail when the bullets are flying.

And yet, Malkin excoriates those who have a realistic idea of what war is really like, and she has no mercy for them – even while all they’re doing is exercising the right to dissent which all of our REAL warriors have fought for for so long –
AND, to make it all the more absurd, almost all of her hordes of Chickenhawk acolytes have never been in combat, nor volunteered for it.

The only people who worship brute force are those who have never experienced it, like Malkin and her Chickenhawk chorus. Abraham Lincoln and George Washington would have refused to acknowledge Malkin as a real American. Real Americans do not worship brute force. Real Americans, like Lincoln, hate brute force, and they grieve (as Lincoln did, and as he taught us to) whenever they are compelled to use it. And real Americans always respect those who counsel avoidance of brute force.

And real American patriots do not bray for wars in which they are not personally willing to fight or to make life-changing personal sacrifices for.
Most of the signers of the Declaration of Independence died bankrupt. They pledged “our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.”
And they lived up to it. Most of them died bankrupt and in obscurity.

Unless and until we see Malkin taking similar risks and making similar sacrifices, she will not deserve to be called an American. She and her kind are a fungus sucking on the land of the free and the home of the brave.

April 20, 2006 @ 10:27 am | Comment

I won’t comment directly on this Michelle Malkin kerfuffle, suffice to say when it comes to US politics you seem profoundly unreliable. Even if you agreed with any of my political views, I suspect it would still be for the wrong reasons. And if you hated Kerry, you’d be just as barking mad as you are today. And that’s the problem. Hate. You’re full of it at such times as these. You really love to hate. Makes you feel alive. Well, of course it has the same invigorating effect on many of the rest of us… haha… but as good as it may feel and sound to the ear, it ain’t at all persuasive in the written form. Your material on China, where you seem fortunately to have invested less emotional capital, is that much more palatable. When the day comes that you don’t give half a damn, you’ll be at your peak. Because then presumably you’ll be capable of the analytical clarity that comes with detachment. The distinction between humans and other mammals is not to be found in our emotional palette, which I presume is shared with them more or less equally, but in our capacity to reign in our emotions and aspire to detachment. Once you get there, perhaps you can bring in readers via wit. After all, I’m not suggesting readers will come without some sort of emotional pull. They surely won’t. But venting hatred and playing at the shooting of fish in barrels? It’s just so unpersuasive, unsporting, and… for me… just plain too easy. There’s no challenge in it. It ought to bore you by now. It’s not a good sign that you haven’t tired of this nonsense yet.

April 20, 2006 @ 12:00 pm | Comment

Ivan: If you’re a fan of Lincoln, you must find it ironic that Lincoln shared so many things in common with George W. Bush. Lincoln was hated in the East for being a rural bumpkin, for starting an illegal war, for throwing heaps of money around on patronage projects, for his hostility to the press (didn’t Lincoln jail in excess of a hundred newspaper editors?), for overseeing Sherman’s March on Atlanta which was the 19th century equivalent of the bombing of Dresden. Several of Lincoln’s generals had a withering contempt for the Great Emancipator; General McClellan in particular if memory serves. A number of Lincoln’s generals were political appointees, business hacks who figured they were owed a command. And it took Lincoln more than two years to get the Civil War on the right track (when he discovered Grant, whose nickname was The Butcher. The confederates didn’t give him that name. His own troops did. For butchering them in senseless battles. Grant, as you’ll remember, praised himself for only reading one book on strategy and learning nothing from it.) And I recall reading somewhere that during battle, troops fleeing were shot on the spot by their own men. The tactic was to place twelve men with shooting irons (i.e. I don’t remember what they shot with), behind which walked one man with a revolver and orders to shoot the first man who tried to run. I have the feeling this was the official policy on both sides, after which discipline improved and some serious killing and maiming got done.

You’ll also remember that many members of the northern congress were constantly in a state of panic and certain the north would lose. They wanted to end the Civil War by negotiating a truce with the Confederates as late as 1863 I believe (it’s late here and I can’t be bothered to verify the date). And you’ll also remember that most everybody who could dodge fighting in the Civil War did via paying for proxies to fight in their place. A lot of chickenhawks then too.

What a surprise that history repeats itself… Fancy that. I find few things more depressing than being informed solemnly that the current average president is worse than other average presidents.

I am no fan of W. And no fan of Clinton. And, for that matter, I don’t degrade myself by admiring anyone from afar. All the while, familiarity breeds contempt. What to do? haha…

April 20, 2006 @ 12:33 pm | Comment

Bill,

Get real, asshole. You can start making comparisons between Lincoln and Bush whenever Bush learns how to write like Lincoln did.

You could force some comparisons between Bush and Jesus Christ if you wanted to. “Both of them were considered rural bumpkins…”

You’re a Bush apologist whose sense of history is as bankrupt as the Bush administration’s. And you don’t get out of that by mouthing the magic words “I am no fan of W”

April 20, 2006 @ 6:07 pm | Comment

Anger and indignation is one thing. A call for vioence is another. I am often angry about things in China, in America and elsewhere. Lots of bloggers are. I’m angry about Hao Wu, I’m angry about Gitmo, I’m angry about corruption in the US Congress. Who isn’t? But when I make my claims about these things, I try to explain why I feel this way and where I see the injustice. I never try to steer my readers to go on a hate binge; I don’t give out phone numbers or addresses. Malkin is all about populist bullying, about forcing others to submit to her will. She is a true phenomenon in the blogosphere, because her will can at times be so childish, so unhinged. Daily Kos is an example of another blogger who urges his readers to take action, like to raise funds or write congressmen. But never this tough-guy,kind of revenge. That’s Malkin’s domain. I hope readers who purvey this blog will see this isn’t my penchant, nor is it that of any other blogger I can think of, left or right. Charles Johnson does it sometimes, but usually he shows more restraint. If you feel there is hatred on this blog on that level, I urge you to leave a link and a quote to prove it. Thank you.

Oh and Bill:

WOW! You might be right after all! Have you ever seen Bush and Lincoln photographed together? No! Maybe they’re really the SAME PERSON!

Oh and yes, yes NOW I can SEE! The American Civil War has many similarities with Iraq, because – as you pointed out – well, first of all, both of them were WARS! WOW! Oh this is almost as good as the X-Files!

And some of Lincoln’s Generals didn’t like him! WOW! Imagine that! Has that anything like that EVER happened in any other war? (Answer is yes, like in virtually every other war in world history.) Oh, look, something similar is happening with the Iraq war! Well, obviously that means Bush is like Lincoln! And conversely, to criticise Bush is like criticising Lincoln. The logic is impeccable.

Some of Lincoln’s Generals were business hacks?
Wow! Just like the Bush administration again.
The similarities are astonishing. That means that we cannot make any serious distinctions between the Bush administration and Lincoln, right? Of course. Any 10 year old could see that.

“What a surprise that history repeats itself.” NO IT DOESN’T, you sophomoric ass! History NEVER repeats itself. But people with lazy minds like you, do.

April 20, 2006 @ 6:23 pm | Comment

PS, Bill: Actually I can see that you really don’t admire Bush, but you dislike him for the wrong reasons. Your reasons are nihilistic and antinomian. You lazily put him in the same category as “other average presidents”, as you say.

That’s why I say you’re a lazy thinker. It’s SO easy to pull your sophomore routine and say, “OOOHH, look, history is full of bad things! All leaders are equally bad.” It smacks of a boy who never got enough attention from Daddy.

You imagine yourself as some kind of sophisticate, and you have a rather shabby conception of what that means. For you it means regarding all history with a few cynical catch-phrases which you never found in your High School history books.

Oh look, Bill. In history there are, well there are PROBLEMS! And American history is full of bad things! Wowwwww. Well, I can see you’ve learned quite a lot since, well since you were in elementary school.

You’re a cheap type of faux-intellectual with a very lazy mind and only one or two devices, cheap phrases like “history repeats itself”, which sound profound to a ten year old but get worn out rather quickly when exposed to just a bit of actual thinking.

I will tap dance on the windpipe of anyone that tries to harm Michelle Malkin or her family.

All she has to do is say the word and an Army of folks like me will come runnin to her neighborhood.

We will protect her the same way the Bikers protect the military families.

April 20, 2006 @ 7:22 pm | Comment

Good for you, Richard. No one here’s advocating harm to Michelle or her family. But it sounds like you’d love it if they did, as you are itching for a fight. Don’t forget to wear your brown shirt. You are the prototypical Maglalanganite, ready to leap into action and kick a liberal in the face should Lady McMaglalang so request.

April 20, 2006 @ 7:44 pm | Comment

Richard: We’ll have to disagree. I read Michelle Malkin’s blog on a daily basis for about half a year until a couple of months ago. Saying she hates immigrants doesn’t pass muster from what I saw. She’s excitable for sure, but hateful? I think you’re reading more into it than is actually there. It would be like someone on the right trying to convince me that Salon magazine was out to destroy America. I’m a former paid subscriber. Since reading Adam Smith, Hayek, and Friedman, I’ve been unable to take Salon seriously, but if someone was to posit devious motives to the magazine… It would take some persuading before I bought into that conspiracy… haha…

As to Ivan: Well… hahaha…. Holy Jeebus! All that wasted exuberance. If you’re less emotional you’re less likely to backtrack on your own posts. And I’m really not your enemy. Please find someone else and take me off your un-American activities list, sir. After all, you (if you’re American) have a marvelous country, but I’m not even a Yank. When Clinton was in office, I defended him from folks infected with Clinton-derangement syndrome. Now I’m defending Bush. If Kerry was in office, I’d no doubt be defending him. Most politicians are pretty much the same. They do as they’re told. They play to the gallery. If the public is in favor of eating children, they’ll stump for it in the campaign and call naysayers unAmerican. I know from personal experience here in Taiwan as an observer spending a few days accompanying a DDP heavyweight that politicians are, and must be, paranoid. Until you’re adopted into the family, they think everyone’s out to get them. They trust almost nobody. I don’t blame them for being who they must be in order to hold office. Blame is typically a pointless and witless exercise in self-aggrandizement conducted by people who will never hold power and never make a difference in this life.

Regards,

I’m leaving this thread now, but would be more than happy to take my licks in a later one.

April 20, 2006 @ 11:47 pm | Comment

Bye bye.

It’s interesting to see how you throw gasoline on the fire and then take off. Let me just remind you of your earlier comment:

And that’s the problem. Hate. You’re full of it at such times as these. You really love to hate. Makes you feel alive.

I want to give you fair warning that I don’t tolerate this here. You can argue with me, dispute my point of view and attempt to disprove it, but I request that you not talk this way to your host. You can go to your own heavily trafficked blog and tell people I’m full of hate, but I don’t have to provide you the bandwidth to do that. I’ll let it go this time, but you’ve been warned.

April 21, 2006 @ 12:40 am | Comment

I just came across your warning now. At another article, I tried to post a comment advising you of a couple of books (Dikotter: Narcotic Culture – A History of Drugs in China; Zheng Yangwen: The Social Life of Opium in China) you might fancy which are related to the Chinese War on Drugs conducted a century ago, given that neither one of us is a fan of the US war on drugs. My comment won’t load up after repeated tries. Perhaps it’s just a system problem. Then I thought back to this post.

I meant what I said in an amicable manner, ergo my admission in my original comment that I’m prone to the same emotions as you. Then again, as the author of my statement, I’m responsible for how my output is interpreted. I apologize for giving you the impression that what I wrote was mean spirited. It was not meant that way. However, and sadly presuming that this will get me banned from your website, I meant precisely what I said.

For what it’s worth, I didn’t “throw gas and then take off.” I rarely comment on websites because I find the time-delay in receiving replies intolerable. I can’t concentrate on other things while waiting to know how people will reply. It’s literally maddening for me. By taking off, I end the suspense. We all have different psyches.

And nobody reads my blog. Nobody. Not even my friends. It’s up there for me. A form of self-discipline to ensure I read five or more stories pertaining to East Asia each day. I didn’t tell people you’re full of hate. In effect I put up a post-it reminding myself that you and I and many others are easily overcome with strong emotions of this kind.

Anyway… good luck with your blog. You’re doing very well. I wish you the best. I’ll continue to read it and continue to recommend it. With various caveats of course… haha… Again, good luck…

Biff…

April 25, 2006 @ 12:53 pm | Comment

No, you aren’t banned. Just warned about the personal stuff. The reason your earlier comment didn’t post had to do with the spam filter, which is aggressive and out of my control.
