Tongzhi

China Daily runs a surprisingly good article (from Beijing Review) on coming out in China, complete with a mini-dictionary of Chinese gay terminology. A good job (if predictably rosy in its outlook). Now, when will they un-ban the gay cultural festival?

I highly doubt it. But the pirate DVD is probably for sale on the street already.

I was gonna say, I’m waiting for the review from my cinephile friend in Beijing! He sees stuff way before I do…

The Tongzhi article really makes me think about the progress China has made. Sure, the gay festival was banned this year, but even in the late 80s here I was routinely told that there were no homosexuals in China at all.
