The cover-up of AIDS in Henan Province

I don’t have the time or the strength to write about this today, but luckily another blogger has done it for me. This is one of the most distressing of all China-related topics, as it amounts to nothing short of murder. When we know something is out there that can kill our people…when we know that knowledge and information can save their lives…and when we make a conscious choice to remain silent and do nothing (except lie)…and when, as a direct result, people suffer unimaginable misery and certain death…isn’t it murder?

Well put and thanks for the link, Richard. I just can’t believe everyone is so silent about it.

In my opinion, this is far worse than that of the Tiananmen Square Massacre – at least those who were killed in 1989 by the hands of the government did so within minutes. These people are condemed to a life of suffering which has been passed on to their offspring.

I wonder how the people of Harbin who have been praising their government in Beijing for sending bottled water would feel if they knew about the suffering of their brothers and sisters in Henan?

If my President allowed such a thing to happen in my country, I’d shoot him myself. (note, that is not a threat against the President of the United States)

Be careful Gordon you might disappear without trace for saying that!

I think knowledge and information alone are not enough to save the lives of people infected with HIV. Its really sad after so many years and we still have not find a cure for this disease! I think the drug firms and governments around the world are not doing enough to find a cure!
The corrupt officials are trying to cover up their bad deeds and they should be punished. But that still doesn’t solve the problem of Aids/HIV. We need to find a cure!

Ming, I thought about that beforehand, that’s why I added the disclaimer.

I have my doubts about whether or not there’s a cure of HIV/AIDS. Remember Magic Johnson? He supposedly contracted HIV from an affair that he had, yet we haven’t heard anything about him and his case of HIV for years. It’s amazing as to the priviledges money can by, isn’t it?

The simple fact is that Drug Companies don’t want to find cures for anything because they don’t make as much money on that.

Gordon, my basic political outlook is pretty different than yours, but I’m 100% with you on this one.

Tiananmen was an extreme political situation, at least the gov’t could claim it (or “public harmony”) was threatened.

But that wasn’t true of the Henan AIDS catastrophe. It was a case of criminally negligent medical bungling on a horrific scale. And people are still dying. And the cover-up continues.

But who really cares, as long as I get my black Audi and my mistresses are paid for.

X-(

Quite a number of diseases have been cured with the help of the big drug companies. And many very, very rich people have died of AIDS. I thought Magic Johnson was on the usual cocktail that’s saved so many countless people in recent years – his living this long is not exceptional nowadays.

This is disgraceful. Covering up because the Party looks bad is bad enough – covering it up to protect one man is unforgiveable. This goes to show that Hu Jintao and his cronies have no morals whatsoever. If they did, they’d throw Li Changchun and the others to the dogs.

Um, Richard, I would suggest you read “Natural Cures “They” Don’t Want You To Know About”, by Kevin Trudeau.

It’s quite similar to the “Fast Food Nation”. Only it applies to the Pharmaceutical Industry.

Well, maybe. I work with a lot of pharmaceutical companies, and I know a lot of them are very sincere and dedicated. Yes, there are some major scoundrels and corrupt executives who value profits way over the lives of others. But I don’t believe they don’t want to cure AIDS. If that were so, why the cures for polio and malaria and small pox and so many other lethal diseases?

December 6, 2005 @ 2:05 am | Comment

I’m not saying that all pharmaceutical companies are that way, but certainly there are a large number of them that are.

My sister-in-law is a rep for a large pharmaceutical company and she will tell you the same thing: There’s more money to be made in treating an illness than there is curing it.

That’s not her personal outlook, but that’s how many of the big pharmecutical companies look at it.
