Guest blogger Jerome Keating had a great idea: a breakfast meeting to be held every few weeks for expats in Taiwan (and anyone else in Taiwan who wants to talk about local-regional issues). The first one was held today and it was great, with ten very interesting, very brilliant people showing up (not including myself, the only uninteresting and unbrilliant one there). I learned more about Taiwan in 2 hours than I’d learned in my entire life. If you are in Taiwan and are interested, please let me know.

As everyone knows, taiwan is part of china. and the capital of china is beijing. and in beijing we say “taibei” not “taipei.”
So, in the future, please spell it “taibei” and stop hurting the chinese people’s feelings. You could also add an “-r” on the end and that would put a smile on my face. Yes, Tai-beir!
i just wanted to check out what was on this site today, but guys, i’ve got like 12 chinese people in my apartment whose feelings are really hurt by your spelling. oh, and you use peking instead of beijing in “peking duck!” looks like i am going to have to run downstairs and buy extra kleenex. please make these corrections as soon as possible, my waiguo pengyou!

Of course our first reaction would be to tell them to eat it, but then I thought what the h. . ., our romanization process here is so divided and politicized that one more suggestion in the hopper wouldn’t be all that bad.
