Angry Chinese Blogger beats China block

Posted by Martyn

Quality China site Angry Chinese Blogger is now fully accessable in Mainland China. To get around the block put on Blog-City, which made the sites inaccessible without the use of servers, an unblocked mirror site is now up and running, spreading the news that Beijing doesn’t want you to hear. Angry Chinese Blogger’s entire back archive, along with all new articles will still be available at the regular Blog-City site.

ACB now joins fellow bloggers Horse’s Mouth and Sun-Bin who have also set up mirror sites.

UPDATE: I’m delighted to report that China blog Leaking State Secrets has joined the The Peking Duck’s ‘Beat the Block’ campaign and has now set up a mirror site that is fully accessable throughout Mainland China.

How does one go about creating a mirror site? I saw a previous blogpost on other servers that one could sign up on but do you have to post on both? I guess my question is: Is there a way to create a mirror site that isn’t as much trouble as running two blogs?

I’m sure some experienced bloggers will give you an answer BS but, as far as I know, people like Sun-Bin just paste their original posts (hyperlinks and all) onto their mirror sites. I know that Sun-Bin himself has commented that doing this is suprisingly easy and hassle-free.

By the way, it would be great to see MeiZhongTai unblocked and accessable all over China. It wouldn’t do your overall site traffic any harm either.

Thre ‘s a mirror site for the archives of Leaking State Secrets at:
http://spaces.msn.com/members/mutikonka/

It’s all a bit jumbled up timewise because I just cut and pasted from blogspot [blocked] to MSN spaces. It only allows you about 20,000 characters for one post so I had to divide it up.

If Beijing blocks 20six, I’m going to move on to blogs.com because that is where MAJ is, so if I get blocked, so does he.

while we’re on the subject, does anybody know how to center text using CSS so that it can be seen in firefox? I’ve tried the way that I used to center the titles on the gutter of my main site, but it doens’t appear to work on my mirror even though I’m using the same code.

ACB,

Don’t confuse blog.com and blogs.com (of Six Apart, which also hosts my humble typepad blog).

ACB/Gordon

Please note, the freak has NOTHING to do with blog.com. He no longer has a site there and will not be setting up another site there.

That’s great news mate. A fine new addition to TPD’s Beat the Block campaign. I’ve updated the post as appropriate.

Thanks for the info re Gordon’s mirror site. I thought the blog.com mirror site was just an extra precaution. I’ll check them out and make the appropriate changes to the links. Thanks again.

zhuan jia,

jsut curious, what does “mutikonka” mean? if it’s something personal, just ignore my question.

where is MAJ’s blog now?

mutikonka refers to a 19,000 foot high mountain called Muti Konka, or Maidi Gangga (麦地贡嘎), in a remote part of Sichuan. As far as I know only two westerners have ever been there: the botanist Joseph Rock in 1929, and me, last year. You can read about it all at my other blog, In The Footsteps of Joseph Rock, drjosephrock.blogspot.com.

I chose it as it is highly unlikely that anyone has that username.
