Christian psychosis on China

This is scary as hell. Be sure to follow the link to the site that’s saying these nutty things, and remember, these are the people our dear leader listens to and answers too. Absolutely frightening.

There’s a lot of great stuff at this blog on many, many China-related issues, so please have a look.

I popped across and read the article. Thanks for the link.

I understand that George W is a strong believer but he’s surely not into all that Rapture rubbish is he?

I’m no expert on the US religious right (I’m from UK) but almost everything I’ve read about them (and I imagine that there are a hundred different factions) they are total lunatics who want nothing more than to impose ‘their’ idea of right and wrong on everybody else.

Isn’t that directly opposed to everything America is supposed to stand for?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m far from anti-US, but if I were living in America, I’d actually consider them a real threat.

I think you’re missing the real threat John.
when rapture finally happens and the saved ascend, their genitals will leave their bodies and fall back down to earth.
make sure you’re carrying an umbrella.

What? Genitals? Leaving their body and falling back to earth? What’s all this about? Why are we talking about genitals? I was having a nice and quiet Saturday afternoon hanging on the Duck?

Is this something to do with their religious beliefs or predictions?

I’m not sure what’s more scary, Rapture itself or just the bit about genitals falling down upon you. Because, believe me, I won’t be going up with the Rapture crowd.

John,

Some of us in the States are very much frightened by this kind of thing, yes.

and from now on, I’m not leaving the house without an umbrella.

other lisa, I don’t blame you for being frightened. George W himself isn’t into that Rapture stuff is he? I’m starting to worry.

Laowai, I want to quote the last paragraph from that wonderful post:

If I have any on China it is to advocate giving the poor and destitute more practicable equality. To free them from their suffering. And I probably won’t ever even be in a position to campaign to do that on any real level. But that’s what I’m about. No one has done it sucessfully so far, and I’m not about to try at the moment, but if I could be accused of having a vested interest in China, this is it. Nothing in it for myself, except to say, “There, now there are more people who have some control over their own lives. Well done.”

It is just how I feel so often, writing about China. To me, the tragic irony is that so many see it as “China bashing.” It is exactly the oppposite. Thanks.
