Good riddance

With so much bad news coming down the pike, I guess it was inevitable that a piece of good news would slip in. Goodbye, John Ashcroft; no one will miss you.

His farewell letter sure gives us something to laugh about.

“The objective of securing the safety of Americans from crime and terror has been achieved.”

Nice to know. I’ll sleep a bit easier tonight.

Ashtray, if you remember, was the one who, only days before September 11, wanted to reduce anti-terrorist spending so he could focus on the important stuff, like prostitution and pornography. His track record in convicting September 11 suspects has been atrocious, and he’s been by far the most controversial and pompous AG in my lifetime (Ed Meese being the only one who even comes close). The 2nd bush term just became a notch more acceptable less repugnant.

I made Ashcroft a going-away present. Feel free to reuse and/or distribute it, if you like:

Not less repugnant yet. We don’t know what kind of character will replace the man who does not know difference between the U.S. Constitution and toilet paper.

Ashcroft is a person with no concept of prefectly or no so prefectly normal law abiding people having different points of view and different attitudes towards good governance. He deserves his return to a place where he cannot do more harm to America

Of course, he could end up on the Supreme Court…

I didn’t realize that we were at security level green. I’m going to sleep better tonight.

It is fitting that November is Alzheimer Awareness Month – maybe Ashcroft can be their new spokesman.

Now we know who the new AG is and it does not give me any solace at this point as he is a long time and close friend of the bush. A willing servant? And he was the originator of the Memo to the bush that some of the participant enemies in Afganistan and Iraq did not come under the Geneva Convention and the rules of war. Another stake in they together have driven into the heart of our ideals. I get so fucking mad about the bush being in the WH for 4 more that I could just, “expletive deleted”.

Tommy Chong (of Cheech and Chong) got 6 months plus a felony conviction for the crime of marketing bongs under an Ashcroft-led push.
I feel so safe now.
