19-year-old US soldier blogs from Kuwait, Iraq and Kansas

A lot of it is personal stuff (“miss my girlfriend” and stuff like that) but there are a few posts that pop out at you.

If you voted for Bush, didn’t vote, or voted no on gay marriage, I hope you get drafted. I hope they stick you in my unit, and you go with me to Iraq when my unit goes back in September. I will laugh when you see what soldiers in that country face on a daily basis. I hope you work with gay soldiers too. I did. One of them saved my life. Think he shouldn’t have the right to get married? Fuck you. He fought just as hard as I did and on most days, did his job better than me. Don’t tell me gays don’t have the same rights you do. Think the war in Iraq is a good thing? I’ll donate my M-16 to you and you can go in my place.

It’s worth a look on this, the eve of Vietnam II.

Thanks for posting that, Richard. I hope this kid makes it through with his good sense and his body undamaged.

Earlier today I was able to read his blog, but now looks like the journal is protected and I cannot read the content anymore.

Do I need to be a member of LiverJournal to read this blog?

Interesting — I have a livejournal ID but I can’t access it either. I think it’s been taken down — yesterday he had nearly 500 comments and it was linked all around the world. Did our loving and tolerant government take action?

I think that’s most likely the case.
I hope the soldier is not punished because of his blog.

No, he simply closed his live journal to friends only.
He said that he doesn’t want it to be a public forum at this time, though if you ask, he will make you a friend…

I asked, and haven’t gotten a response yet, but we’ll see…

I am a decorated eighty year old veteran of WW2 in Europe (D-day, the Hurtgen forrest, the battle of the Bulge, etc.). I still think that the Iraq war is an insult to our guys in uniform. What a we fighting for anyway?

Enough about me..I just wanted you to know that your letter reminds me so much of my war buddies. Young guys with their heads screwed on straight. With people like you, this country has nothing to fear.

I feel your pain. I am serving in the military as well but maybe you should not have joined in the first place. Remember boot camp? HELLO…… You know when they said hey, this is an M-16 and you may need to use it to save you and kill people with it?????????
You also know you could have quit without shame in boot if you really wanted to. I understand your situations sucks and it does for me too. However noone forced you to join so you need to deal with the actions you have choosen for your life. If you get back and want to challange the government when you get out that’s your right as an american but until then maybe you should think about the consequences of your negativity on morale. Low morale can and does traslate to death on the battlefield so if you want to increase your chances please consider positive suggestions that may actually lead to positive results.
Sorry brother, I respect you and all you do but I had to say my peace,
God Speed………..
