The Hong Kong March in Words and Pictures

You have to visit ZonaEuropa for its wonderful photos and descriptions of the march. Sadly, he fails to tie the huge turnout to my birthday, but he does a fine job explaining why you can’t always believe the crowd estimates broadcast by the media. Superb post.

Update: Also some nice photos over at Daai Tou Lam.

I like that information.

Though it always helps if the person is actually there, and not just watching it on television.

ESWN’s numbers won’t add up to the organisers because he doesn’t pick up the numbers of people who didn’t join the march from the beginning.

Lots of people joined the march somewhere in between Victoria Park and CGO to avoid having to wait under the withering sun on a dark coloured artificial surface tennis court and left before getting to CGO because of the narrowness of the path going up the hill across from HSBC.

I’ll write a few more thoughts and link in the smaller images on my page to the 1024×768 hi-res photos suitable for desktop images later.

I didn’t think the HK people had it in them to do it for 2 years running … but I guess I forgot their reaction to 1989 …

It poses a really serious challenge for the mainland government … one which quite frankly, I don’t think they have the understanding or inclination to meet effectively …
