Haven’t had your fill of new China-spawned diseases yet?

Then today may be your lucky day. Danwei says a new one may be looming on the horizon. Just a rumor for now, but that’s how I first heard about SARS, too. And this one sounds pretty grim.

Richard,

I’m not worried about any of these diseases. I just think the information should be out there.

All my Korean friends skipped the country over SARS, they were all shocked that I didn’t pack up and leave either.

Funny huh, mass hysteria like that is what spreads the stuff around.

Oh just fuckin’ great!!

I hate to put it this harshly, but if the Chinese are going to utilitze modern technology to live in the densities they do now, they MUST also adopt modern livestock and meat handling procedures.

All of this selling of live animals and then taking them home to slaughter them in high density Asian cities is archaic, and with nasty viruses jumping between species, has to stop, cultural sensitivities be damned.

There are serious GLOBAL health issues involved, and I don’t give a damn how much Mr. Wong likes his chicken reaallllyyy fresh.

I’ll have to agree with David on that. It might be harsh but it really is the God awfull truth, in my opinion.

We have 100 Mr. Wong’s in my building and they all go out to the market (a.k.a. Petshop) to “walk” their meat home in the early morning.

Frankly I am amazed I don’t have bird flu yet.

Richard,

That disease is probably avian flu — avian is not just limited to chickens — not a new one as you seem to think.

Check out my post on the reforms though. It’s major.

The “tests” say it isn’t bird flu. For now, no one knows. Maybe it’s a new mutant strain that affects only black swans….?
