Guerillas in the China Mist

I’ve been reading Conrad’s site for more than a year now, and somehow I never clicked on this link from his sidebar until 10 minutes ago. I have been laughing out loud ever since. Don’t miss it.

Hilarious. Thanks for the tip. The HR issues link at that site is ‘laugh out loud’ funny. And unsettlingly contains more than a grain of truth.

It’s always been impossible for me to connect to geocities – I thought they were one of the sites permanently blocked out by the great firewall. Are there any other ways to find out what it is that you enjoy so much, any mirror sites or anything?

Fiona, there must be away to access geocities sites with a proxy server or some other device that fools the Great Firewall. You should write to some of the Mainland bloggers to find out how they’re doing it.

George, we love you, but you have the mind of a slug. “but i think it’s not fair richard you can sarcastically
critisize most chinese people with show no repect.” I never criticize Chinese people, only its leaders. Doing busiess in China can be a very odd and even funny rhing, and to point that out is not to slam Chinese people. Grow up, please.

Funny yes, but it looks non-maintained. Any idea when this was last updated?

Sadly, it’s been abandoned for quite some time.

Hello, I have a few things to say:
1. I’m guessing english isn’t george’s first language so I wouldn’t automatically dismiss what he has to say. I’d also say he’s pretty pissed about the awfully broad generalizations at GCM.
2. GCM seems like a parody site like http://www-unix.oit.umass.edu/~thoureau/japanese.html generally as a backlash against the western perception of the “Oriental Mystique”. I would suggest reading their arguments with a huge grain of salt.
3. RE: Chinese arrogance – realistically speaking, they’re no more arrogant than everyone else, we just end up those who cry loudest, as they do with ours.
4. I think the Chinese are sensitive to criticism because it reminds them of being colonialized by the West+Japan. I might as well note the “No Chinese and dogs allowed” signs are a product of that era.

Tony, George has been spamming this site with bizarre comments for many months, sometimes making charges that are so hilarious and silly they get picked up by other bloggers. I don’t dismiss anyone based on their level of English. What gets on people’s nerves is George’s shrieking that if we don’t love China — everything about it and its government — we have no right to be in Asia.

Maybe the writer could not update the website because geocities is blocked from within china….hmmmm….maybe….?
