Blasting Bush’s State of the Union Speech

My amazement continues as Andrew Sullivan slams Bush’s SOTU address on every level. He closes by saying, incredibly, “If you’re a fiscal conservative or a social liberal, this was a speech that succeeded in making you take a second look at the Democrats. I sure am.”

I am still sure Bush is destined to win the upcoming election. I am just a lot less sure than I was a few days ago.

Bush will always win as far as he can possibly retain that position.

But I am confused Richard, and so must ask…

We do have democracy back home. Right?

Cheers!

P.s.: Yes, he will definitely win.

Last time I checked, it still bore a resemblance to a democracy, Ron. Check out the new essay by Robert Kuttner over at Tapped. It made me feel far less secure about our democracy, especially if Bush wins again (as we know he will).

How much time is there between now and the general elections, and you are already conceding?

That’s pathetic.

Jeremy, lok at what I write in the post: “I am still sure Bush is destined to win the upcoming election. I am just a lot less sure than I was a few days ago.”

I am not conceding. If I were, would I waste my time blasting Bush when I feel it’s appropriate? Would I write about the new twist in the Democratic primaries with so much hope? Of course not. I still think it appears Bush will win. But I will be very active, at my computer, in the election booth and in coversations with everyone who’s interested — I will do everything I can to fight it. But I am gloomy at the moment because I see the Dems so far go about it the wrong way. As they get better and as things change, I am hoping to change my mind, and if you’ve been reading you’ll see that with Iowa I moved toward a very cautious optimism.

But right now, I’d say Bush will win. Last week I would have said it was a done deal. Today I’m sure he’ll win but less sure than I was. Maybe this doubt will continue to grow. I sure hope so. And I’ll actively do what I can to express my point of view that Bush’s re-election would be a bad thing. So read between the lines….

OK Jeremy, may be I am wrong. And I would be more than happy to be wrong.

Let us both bookmark this post and comments and come back after the elections.

Of course, we don’t want him to win. And I think even you can see that in Richard’s posts or [probably] my comments/blog.

Cheers and a Happy [Chinese] New Year to all over here.

Bookmarked, and I’m taking bets. I already have $50 on Dean flaming out.

I just think there’s a lot of time, for a lot of things to happen between now and the elections.

No idea who the candidates aare going to be (that includes the GOP VP), what’s going to happen in Iraq, or wherever we next go in the Middle East, or even if there’s going to be another terrorist attack in the USA.

One thing that is for sure is that we are living in a bubble in the States, too secure in the belief it won’t happen here again.

Bookmark accepted and bookmarked as well.

Agree with a lot you say Jeremy.

Can’t fix the bet yet. Give me say one or two more days to think over.

Cheers!
