Hao Wu’s sister is blogging

Read about it here.

I applaud what Rebecca and Ethan are doing. I also want to urge them to delete the comments posted on their site by one “Jessica Copeland.” There is a time to delete, and this is clearly one such time. It’s not about free speech; Jessica can open her own blog at any time. It’s about respect for Hao Wu.

Also via Rebecca, this article in the WSJ.

Update: One of the most poignant lines from the blog (in Chinese):

“His dream is in China,: she said. “His dream is for speaking out freely, and for making films…He knows there are some problems here, but he loves China and thinks things are getting better and better.”

I will be very interested to learn, after Hao is released, whether the “thinks” becomes “thought.”

Richard, here is the comment I just posted on the “Free Hao Wu” website:

“Jessica Copeland” is the troll “Really” who plagued a range of China blogs about six months ago. The tipoff is the spelling “Ghod” as well as the general ranting style.

Despite the Chinese nationalist outrage, when last we checked, “Really”/Jessica/Whoever was at a SUNY Institute of Technology in Utica, New York, enjoying the freedoms and opportunities offered by the US of A. He/she/it ran a blog at uvgarden.blogspot.com for some time, which will give you a general idea of his/her/its point of view (not updated since last September). Do approach it with a sense of humor.

I am generally for a open forum in blog comments, but in this case I highly suggest banning. I hesitate to pay any complement, but Really/Jessica is a superb provocateur who will hijack your comment threads and ensure that they are about anything and everthing *other* than Hao Wu.

Really plagued my blog for a while too. I always thought it was a hoot, because I am soooo not a Christian!

Will beat me too it.

I was starting to wonder where Really had been hiding. I had threatened to pay him a visit to expose him to his friends and classmates once I returned to the US, but he faded away into the distance.

It has been awhile since I’ve seen my grandma in New York.

Richard: Hardly. I just have an eye for words. Especially the ones of people who have crapped all over my blog.

Lisa: You’ll always be *my* CIA diva.

Gordon: I’ll contribute to the plane ticket.

I don’t know if anyone is still reading down this far, but I just did a very half-assed translation of Hao’s sister’s latest blog entry, and while my Chinese is still not up to the whole thing, she smacked down “Really” really good.

Also it looks like her family has hired a lawyer and they are taking a petition to PSB, but I didn’t translate that part.
