A peculiar hybrid of personal journal, dilettantish punditry, pseudo-philosophy and much more, from an Accidental Expat who has made his way from Hong Kong to Beijing to Taipei and finally back to Beijing for reasons that are still not entirely clear to him...

Given that most of the Staff there will be exactly the same men as before, I can't see how this would make the US any less secure.

Besides, I'd like to see some terrorist try to smuggle a bomb past a group of Unionized New York dock laborers.

Between them and the mob, they'd have the shirts off of the terrorists backs in cuts and bribes before Home-land security could even get out of bed.

There's nobody with a sharper eye than a unionized stevedor.

And they're a small part of P&O's worldwide interests. I've read that DP World may well sell the US business because running ports in the US is expensive and unprofitable, quite apart from the political controversy.

I take it that you are all aware that these ports are already foreign owned.

They are owned by a British company.
