Is Peking Duck still blocked in China?

I’m hearing mixed things from emailers, and some have suggested I put up a mirror site. Do I need to go to this trouble or is it back to normal? Thanks.

This site is getting blocked hard-core where I am in Shanghai. Even anonymouse, which allows people to view my own non-PC site, fails to work for the Peking Duck. Thankfully, getting around the great firewall is one of my main pasttimes, so I can still visit.

Damn. Well, thanks for the news, Kevin. I’m hearing the same from others in Shanghai, and also from those in Hebei, Jiangxi and other provinces. Mixed reports from Beijing still. Total blackout in Guangzhou.

Wonder why our friend has password-protected his site. What’s the point of having a blog no one can get into to read?

it seems blocked in the morning, but not at night…and has been like this for a week. I can see it at work, but not at home…obviously i work at night. i also live in beijing.

I’m in Beijing, and I odn’t think I ever had any problem accessing it recently. Wikipedia, blogspot, etc. still don’t work. weird. Local block ?

Without a proxy, I can read your articles but not see your pictures or comments. Same for CDT. As Kevin says, anonymousie doesn’t help.
It might just be proxy time, but that would possibly result in commentator segregation. Dunno what the answer is.

I really want to understand why some in Beijing can’t get on at all, some can’t get on at certain set times of the day, and some, like Will and Emile, can get on all the time without a problem.

Liuzhou, how come you don’t post more often? You have a good blog.

I’m in Shanghai using China Telecom and whilst I can access individual pages (linked from bloglines), I can randomly not access the front page (and then can’t access pekingduck.org for a good while following that). Similar things occur with CDT. :/

Funny. You’re coming through fine in SZ, but now I can’t get to my own blog. Would somebody in China mind looking at Shenzhenren to see if it’s available? I posted a local corruption story that’s not too wild, that I took from Simon World (which is still available, BTW). Those guys really irritate me.

I have yet to have any problems from home or work. CDT also problem free. Whatever is happening to you sure is local. It’s like one ISP or subnet is giving you trouble. Maybe the telcos are making their own decisions about who to block now. Have you done anything to piss off China Telecom or China Unicom recently?

Will, I’d really love a good explanation. The odd thing is that it happened all at the exact same instant, when I posted on Taishi – it got blocked all over the place but with all kinds of gaps. Half the readers in Shanghai had no problem, others tell me they still can’t get on. Same exact thing in Beijing and Guangzhou. This leads me to think it is not an across the board block (like blogspot or the BBC). But then, what is it?
