Children’s Anti-Japanese Drawings

Yikes. So young, and so filled with loathing. (Yes, I know why they hate the Japanese so much. And no, these kids aren’t Chinese.) Have a look.

Does anyone know if bunny rabbits have any special significance in China?

I did hear a story about a kindergarten teacher telling her little charges to go home and make sure to tell their parents not to buy any Japanese goods!

Sorry, I should have said does anyone know if bunny rabbits have any special significance in Korea?

haha, yea tsk tsk Richard, as schtickyrice instructs us, this is obviously within bounds of the normal grade school path to knowledge. And why object that these drawings are hung as public art throughout the Korean subway system?

overreaction my arse, buddy.

BTW, is that possible to display time in everyone’s own time zone?

Henry, no, I’m sorry — this blog operates off a single clock, and it is set to a specific US time zone.

not just chinese, korean,(both north and south) all have the dislike or hatred feelings to japan. even Taiwan, the original residents, are protesting japan. this’s not coincidents, i think, but something that’s worth our thinking.

Henry, from what I remember of Taiwan the older residents I met look back fondly on Japanese rule because they hated Chinese/KMT rule far more.

I certianly didn’t notice any anti-Japanese feeling in Taiwan because I remember emailing a friend of mine at the time saying how unique Taiwan was as it may be the only place in Asia where both Americans and Japanese are warmly and genuinely welcomed!

Henry, you made me completely forget what I wanted to post about!

I wanted to say, that I feel sorry for the children. What kind of twisted and sick culture could produce teachers who ask their little pupils to draw that kind of stuff!

Hatred, hatred, hatred.

I care little for any justification for THAT kind of meddling with children’s minds and promoting downright hatred of others. Such negativety in inexcusable.

June 19, 2005 @ 4:24 am | Comment

Yeah, you can’t blame the kids for this.

I remember being told by quite a number of people in HK that Japanese eat shit. They claimed it was a genuine dish, which Japanese people keep quiet about, so foreigners won’t learn of it. I had initially thought it was just another insult “shit eaters” but a number of people swore blind it was a literal fact. Go figure.

I’ve never heard that one before Filthy. That is a strange one.

And Korean children are also encouraged to draw anti-American pictures too!!!

June 19, 2005 @ 9:04 am | Comment

Yes – I’m with most people on this one – Children are taught to hate, and even then it isn’t really hate, it’s more like having a second-hand emotion instilled in you. Like racism. Oh, wait, that’s what it is.

“Does anyone know if bunny rabbits have any special significance…?” There are two animals that are used to represent Korea, the tiger and the rabbit (http://www.askasia.org/Korea/r1.html). The pictures of the rabbits crapping on Japan are essentially based on that.
