The men behind Unfit for Command

Just in case you think there’s any legitimacy to the certifiable lunatics behind the new anti-Kerry book, please go here for some quick enlightenment.

I was delighted to see John McLaughlin side with Eleanor Clift on last night’s McLaughlin Group to condemn the book — and to criticize bush for not openly and personally condemning it. The two almost never agree; when he joined her recently in calling the Iraq war a mistake, it was big news. Wonderful to see how bush continues to alienate intelligent conservatives.

Update: Great wrap-up post on the whole mess over at Skippy.

That stuff was pretty funny.
BOOOO Kerry is so phoney, I’ve never seen someone that so inherently agravates me as much as he does. He is a lying scumbag and that is why he is the DEMOCRAT candidate. He’s already spewing his hate and false promises, pandering his decietful wares to any one gullible enough to listen. Where is his clear plan for the future? There is a reason why he hasn’t shared one with us, and its because he doesn’t have one. John Kerry should move to FRANCE along with the KILLER TED KENNEDY, THAT WOULD MAKE A STRONGER AMERICA. You people are a bunch of buffoons.

Let’s see if I have it right:

Vietnam vets who support Kerry are genuine salt of the Earth war heros. We must give great credance to every word they say.

Vietnam vets who oppose Kerry, especially those who served in his unit, are lunatics. Their opinions must be discounted at all costs.

Is that how it goes in bizarro-world?

I’m not at all sure any of this will have much effect on vote totals in November, but these Swiftvets are not going away. So far, the response to their charges has been to raise questions about who and what is motivating them. That’s interesting, but ultimately beside the point: the question is whether these charges have substance or not.

We shall see. But meanwhile do these seem like men who would stain the record of the units they fought with, and the memories of the men who died beside them, by meanly falsifying their combat recollections? Men who would lend their faces and their good names to a dirty trick for cheap, who would debase their own military service in a nasty, fraudulent effort to impugn a fellow veteran for the purposes of a political campaign? A herd of compliant sheep, rounded up by the crafty henchmen of Karl Rove to sign affidavits and publicly lie in unison?

On the contary, these seem to me like guys who would kick Karl Rove’s ass down the block for any such suggestion. Whatever is going on here, it isn’t that.

I see it like this: these guys on the Swift Boat have rallied around Kerry for years. Kerry’s medals weren’t questioned. His heroism wasn’t questioned.

Then, following the McCain example, a group led by Reagan’s former PR director Merrie Spaeth — the same lady who engineered the attacks on McCain! — rounds up the group, whose most vitriolic leader is one John O’Neill whose only distinctive action in his entire life was being trounced in a debate by Kerry on the Dick Cavett Show in 1971. He never served with Kerry. They are funded by secretive Texas Republicans, and launch an attack identical to the McCain attacks of 2000 — and McCain himself says so, and condemns the smear in no uncertain terms.

To top it off, the book is co-written by a lunatic freeper! Here are some samples of things he’s written:

Corsi on Islam: “a worthless, dangerous Satanic religion”

• Corsi on Catholicism: “Boy buggering in both Islam and Catholicism is okay with the Pope as long as it isn’t reported by the liberal press”

• Corsi on Muslims: “RAGHEADS are Boy-Bumpers as clearly as they are Women-Haters — it all goes together”

• Corsi on “John F*ing Commie Kerry”: “After he married TerRAHsa, didn’t John Kerry begin practicing Judiasm? He also has paternal grandparents that were Jewish. What religion is John Kerry?”

• Corsi on Senator “FAT HOG” Clinton: “Anybody ask why HELLary couldn’t keep BJ Bill satisfied? Not lesbo or anything, is she?”

Such is the quality of our “salt-of-the-earth” SBVFT. But I have good news: While the blogosphere is abuzz with this nonsense, the mass media have basically done their job and moved on: they all reported it when it broke, so they can’t be accused of bias. But now go do a search on google news and you’ll see it’s a dead story. A few wingnut rags like Washington Times are trying to breathe life into it, but it’s already dead in the water. Now, it isn’t completely over, and this will keep coming back because Merrie Spaeth is too smart and too well connected to just let it go. So this will rear its ugly head from now to election day, and each time it does it will help convince swing voters that it’s time to end the regime of bush, which thrives on the low and dirty, on smears and slander that have become Karl Rove’s imprimatur. This may hurt Kerry in some ways; it’s too soon to say. But right now the SBVFT have only been a big minus for bush, and they may help cost him everything. (That last point is not my own; John McLaughlin, conservative Republican pundit, said so on Friday.)

Kerry could end all of this by turning his service records loose. Why won’t he be open and honest with us? Bush release all of his service records and the same media people that tore into them don’t seem to think it’s strange that Kerry won’t release his service records. Let’s have the same chance at Kerry’s records. Makes me wonder what the Boston Strangler (his call sign in The Nam) is hiding.

My uncle told me when he was in nam as a grunt soldier who lived in the jungle he was authorized to kill the slanted eyed gooks(he said it that way with anger he also told me he would kill those gooks again if he had to.)He said there was no room to risk friend or foe if they had to kill they had to kill and killed many.

I would like to express severe dissappointment with George W. Bush. Being an ex drunken party animal I feel that he is doing a huge disservice to myself and my comrades. By not coming clean and providing records for his time as a drunken party animal he diminishes all of us and more importantly our service to our country.

In light of this I propose the seting up of the Drunken Party Animals for Truth campaign (IRS status 527).Donors will of course have no connection to any group or individual running for office. We will make a miniscule television advertising buy but these commercials, or as I like to think of them ‘statements of fact’ will be lept on by the mainstream media and repeated ad infinitum.
