Beijing Blogger Bash — Update and Last Call

[UPDATE: Here’s the plan. We will meet in the lobby of the Novotel Hotel in Wangfujing (easy walk from the subway) at 12:30 p.m., Dec. 6. Then we can head off to the restaurant together in two or three taxis. If possible, please confirm via comment or email to me.]

When I first put out the word on this I expected three, maybe four attendees. So far we now have 10 bloggers who’ve asked to participate. Now we just need to all agree on the time and the place to meet.

Adam M. tells me we’ll meet at a kaoya restaurant (how appropriate) near Wangfujing. Can someone please post a comment with the exact address? Would 1 PM next Saturday (December 6) work for everyone?

Based on emails and comments, these are the participants as of today (and sorry, I don’t have urls for all of them):

Brendan (bokane.org)
Emile Kroeger
Li Tong of Sophie’s World
Adam (robots.org)
Josh Krieger
Alan Murphy
B Raffa, Soapbox Jams
Adam Morris
Jeremy of Danwei
Richard (me)

If I left anyone off, please let me know. If we want to increase the attendance, feel free to put up a notice on your own site. Thanks to everyone for helping to make this happen.

(Oh, and if anyone can convince Hailey to change her plans and be available, we’d all love to meet her.)

Um, I think Adam might be referring to the place I mentioned to him, in which case, it’s not near Wangfujing, except by cab. It’s also a bit hard to find, as it’s buried in an alley near Qianmen.

So unless he was talking about somewhere else, it might be best for everyone to meet up at Wangfujing first, and then take a few cabs.

I think most of the expats in Beijing know Li Qun – it’s mentioned, albeit briefly and with a mistransliterated name, in the Lonely Planet. The address to tell the cabbies to go to, anyway, is
前门东大街和正义路交叉口
(the intersection of Qianmen Dong Dajie and Zhengyi Lu)

Then – according to the directions I wrote down the first time I went there – looking south, you’ll be able to see a sign pointing you in the direction of the restaurant.

If meeting up at Wangfujing first is OK with everyone, that’d probably be easiest; otherwise we may want to take this to the forums, to see if we can find a place that doesn’t require too much coordination.

The one I told Richard about is the same one you told me about Brendan. I think something got lost in the multiple communications.

What kind of restaurant is it?

Peking Duck, of course.

You know, I didn’t even see it written up there. I should pay more attention.
